Nestled deep within the forests of Nagano, the Kiso Residence is a study in contrasts. The exterior is a fortress of board-formed concrete, designed to weather the seasons with stoic grace. Inside, the harshness dissolves into the warmth of local cedar and soft light. We designed this home not as a mere shelter, but as a framing device for nature—where every window captures a specific view of the canopy, turning the changing seasons into the home’s only decoration.
